Since this role directly impacts our Customers every day, holidays off are awarded by seniority, much like work schedules. Employees submit the time they'd like off, which the Company awards based on operational needs, staffing levels, and contractual agreements. Employees that work on observed holidays may be eligible for overtime pay and holiday bonuses as determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Vacation isn't cumulative—Employees must take it within the calendar year earned.
Given the operational nature of these roles, Employees must bid for time off requests since vacation time off is awarded based on seniority and according to contractual agreements. Employees can't use vacation time accrued in their first year of service until the second year commences.
Yes. Vacation days increase with time of service to the Company, including increases at 1, 5, 10, and 18 years of service. These increments are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements.
A Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) defines many aspects of any role which falls within a CBA. The CBA is the agreement between the Company and the union which determines pay, hours, benefits, and other employment terms and procedures.
Unions act as Employee representatives during collective bargaining negotiations, which impacts pay and the day-to-day responsibilities of a position. All Southwest Airlines Operations, Ramp, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents are represented by Transport Workers Union (TWU) 555. Membership begins on an Employee's first day of employment, with monthly dues automatically deducted from a bimonthly paycheck. Employees receive more information from a Union Representative during their first week of employment.
